OUR PARISH
WELCOME TO CHRIST THE KING
We are the Roman Catholic Church in Amesbury, the home of Stonehenge. Historically the area has a rich and ancient heritage and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. We are about 8 miles North of the City of Salisbury. We are part of Clifton Diocese and Rt Rev Declan Lang is our Bishop: his Cathedral is situated in Bristol. We are one of the churches that comprise Salisbury Catholic Deanery. The Current Parish Priest is Fr Saji Mathew. Recently appointed Parish Priest by Bishop Declan, he was previously the Assistant Priest to Salisbury Catholic Churches. In line with his mandate from the Bishop to “teach, sanctify and lead the people of the parish in a spirit of pastoral collaboration”, Fr Saji and our Parish Pastoral Council work together for the good of the parish and the mission of the church in an open, fair and transparent manner. We are an integral part of our Diocesan community formed around our Bishop and as such fully adhere to Diocesan Policy on Safeguarding, Health and Safety and Finance.
Whilst firmly rooted in the Rites, Practices and Traditions of Roman Catholics we are nevertheless very much aware of the Ecumenical nature of Christianity and the church’s role in Ecumenism; we play a full role in the local ‘Churches Together’. We are also aware that individuals and families are of mixed race, mixed denomination, mixed religion and of no faith. We acknowledge this diversity and value the individuality and wholeness of each person. We truly believe you are a child of God and as such you are loved and lovable and will always find welcome and a spiritual home with us.
Naturally the high point of our Parish Life is the Sunday Liturgy. Our Saturday evening Vigil Mass is quiet and prayerful. Our Sunday Mass is accompanied by the organ and we have a full folk mass once a month. There is a Children’s Liturgy of the Word and our Eucharistic Ministers play a full role within the Liturgy and life of the Parish. Morning Prayer (Lauds) and Holy Mass are celebrated during the week and there is a Holy Hour every Friday evening. Please check details either in the Newsletter or Mass Times both of which are found at the top of the Website.
Do visit us if you are in the area: you are always very welcome.
CHRIST THE KING PRIMARY SCHOOL
We are fortunate to have a Catholic Primary School situated within the parish boundaries. Christ the King Primary School is very much a jewel within the Parish and we are thankful to the Teachers, Governors and Parents for making it the happy, loving place of excellence it is. ‘It is’, writes the Headmaster, ‘a place where children are not just taught how to learn, but how to grow, flourish, and thrive within the Catholic values we share’. You will find a link to the school at the bottom of this page should you wish to learn more.
